Retribution Gospel Choir is a rock trio founded in 2007. The group features Alan Sparhawk on guitar and vocals, Steve Garrington on bass and Eric Pollard on drums and vocals. Alan also fronts the band Low with his wife, Mimi Parker, and Steve also plays bass in Low. 2 is Retribution Gospel Choir’s 2nd full-length and Sub Pop debut! Eric Swanson recorded these performances at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth, Minnesota, and Matt Beckley mixed the recordings at Faux Rock in Sherman Oaks, California.

"Why Be Something That You're Not" chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from its origins in the late seventies to its demise in the mid-eighties. Through a combination of oral history and extensive imagery, the book proves that even though the Southern California beach towns might have created the look and style of hardcore punk, it was the Detroit scene - along with a handful of other cities across the country - that cultivated the music's grassroots aesthetic before most cultural hot spots around the globe even knew what the music was about. The book includes interviews with members of The Fix, Violent Apathy, Negative Approach, Necros, Pagans, Bored Youth, and L-Seven along with other people who had a hand in the early hardcore scene like Ian MacKaye, Tesco Vee and Dave Stimson.

Cargo Cult was a band from Austin, TX. It featured Randy “Biscuits” Turner of the Big Boys and Duane Denison before he moved to Chicago to form The Jesus Lizard. After their first album, "Strange Men Bearing Gifts" on Touch and Go records, they recorded demos for a second album in 1987, but broke up before the record materialized. These demos are available now for the first time. In 2004 Biscuits put together the Texas Biscuit Bombs with Maximum Rock’n’Roll and Left Of The Dial writer David Ensminger. Their set list included many Texas punk classics (Really Red's "Teaching You the Fear", The Dicks "Hate the Police", and of course many Big Boys numbers), as well as not-so-punk classics (ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Spencer Davis Group). This release includes 2 live sets recorded at Rudyard's pub in Houston, Texas in 2004 and 2005. The second show being recorded just days before Biscuits untimely death on August, 18th 2005. Totalling 25 songs, this double LP features original cover art by Biscuits and a die-cut silkscreened cover. It also includes a set of 20 Cargo Cult and Texas Biscuit Bombs flyers. All copies are on colored vinyl.

New recordings by the now legendary Amsterdam punk band. Cutting their teeth on bands such as the Stooges, MC5 and Stiff Little Fingers back in 1978, the Nitwitz played for four years without making much of a dent in the real scheme of things. They reunited in 1996 to record this album which shows their original philosophy, style and energy hasn’t been dissipated by the passage of time.

The A side is Holocene and the B side is Come Talk To Me, a Peter Gabriel cover that was recorded for Gabriel’s Scratch My Back covers album.

The release of this two-song EP (originally available only on vinyl, but hence released on CD) marks the end of Slint's brief yet shockingly provocative career. The album contains an alternate version of "Rhoda" from "Tweez", as well as one previously unreleased track, "Glenn." The album is a 20-minute barrage of haunting melodies and caustic noise. It is entirely instrumental, and this evidences Slint's skill and ambition. Without lyrics, the music takes a precedence that it perhaps lacks on other albums. Although greatly in the character of their earlier work, this album breaks through as Slint's most important release. Sadly, though, the album acknowledges the breakup of the band. Many have followed in the wake of Slint, but it seems unlikely that anyone will eclipse them. The album is a requisite listen for anyone interested in the post-rock era.

Mixing psychedelic rock, avant-garde musique concrete (tape loops, sound experiments), samba, funk and soul, Tropicália was so radical – and its social implications so politically profound - that its leading protagonists, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, were arrested, imprisoned and finally exiled in 1969. Tropicália’s unique ideology mixed high art with mass culture. Tropicália created musical and cultural anarchy, a revolution in Brazilian sound with a legacy later to be internationally championed by such diverse artists as David Byrne, Beck, Kurt Cobain, Stereolab, The Bees and Tortoise. Tropicália artists loved the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. They loved such forgotten Brazilian musical radio heroes as Dorival Caymmi, Luis Gonzaga and Orlando Silva as much as they were interested in the avant-garde of John Cage and Stockhausen. The Tropicália artists loved Joao Gilberto even though the rise of Tropicália in many ways resulted in the demise of Bossa Nova, the elegant Brazilian music that had swept to international prominence at the start of the Sixties.

'Do Not Resuscitate' was recorded in 2005. It is the last song Hot Snakes recorded before they broke up. Finally available on this 7" released for their All Tomorrow's Parties show and European tour this month.

From the introspective acoustic-scapes of 1989's ‘Workbook’ to the electronic tendencies of 2002's ‘Modulate’, Mould has continually pushed past the shadow of his legacy, venturing into new directions while still maintaining his mercurial rock edge. 2005's ‘Body Of Song’ bears many of the hallmarks of Mould's best work. The programming touches from previous efforts can still be heard, but the massive, guitar-dominated, full-band sound recalls Sugar circa ‘Copper Blue’ (and there is a similarly metallic, full-saturation production style). As anyone familiar with Mould will expect, the songs are quite sharp too: they overflow with memorable, melodic hooks, introspective lyrics, and full-throttle passion. Most bands are too afraid to step up to the bat. They are scared that life is going to throw them different kinds of curve balls. But for more than fifteen years, Trans Am has fearlessly stepped up, taken their swings and thrown a few curve balls of their own. Trans Am a-la 2010 is a band of veterans unafraid to contradict themselves, confident in their identity even as confounding as that identity has been for their fans over the years. Containing the very first transmissions from Explosions In The Sky to the world, the songs on How Strange Innocence were freshly written, painstakingly rehearsed, and anxiously put to tape during a whirlwind two-day recording session in January 2000 with Stephen T. Hall (Sixteen Deluxe) at The Bubble in Austin, TX. But the group evolved quickly, and recorded what would be their breakthrough, the stunning Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever, less than one year later. How Strange Innocence was pushed aside in favor of the more accomplished Those Who Tell The Truth as the band's introduction to the rest of the world, seeing no official release beyond 300 CDRs the band produced to sell on the road. Original CDRs fetch over $200 on eBay, the scarce tour-only vinyl version nearing $500! This phenomenon was disconcerting to the band and their fans who weren't making crazy scratch from selling said records on said eBay. That said, words fail to describe how proud we are to finally release this official How Strange Innocence reissue, beautifully remastered with gorgeous new artwork.
